Sketch of the Day: Moon Knight – Finished

This’ll be fun – for me at least.

We’ll start off with the SOTD from last week:  Moon Knight.

There's a bad moon on the rise!

Next, we’ll begin cleanup in Adobe Illustrator.  Since I want to register a few more hits for this particular post, cleanup and finished images are available after the jump. (more…)

Sketch of the Day: Moon Knight

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for Marvel’s ‘Batman’.  One of the first books I read regularly.  At one time I had everything he’d been in from ‘Werewolf by Night’ to the ‘Hulk’ magazines and up through his second title.   Who doesn’t love an Egyptian God’s  schitzo-billionaire agent of vengeance.   In fact, I think ‘Agent of Vengeance’ is about the only title they haven’t tried to slap on one of Moonie’s books.

After they shoe-horned him into the West Coast Avengers, I kind of lost interest.  The big selling point for me was Bill Sienkiewicz’s art and Doug Moench’s writing.  After that, he sort of morphed (or maybe devolved) into a rich ‘lunatic’, which is more Batman’s forte.   Stephen Platt’s interpretation was kind of interesting in a marshmallow-steroidal sort of way (even the veins in his arms had muscles).  I did jump aboard the Charlie Huston/David Finch train, but jumped off after they left and the art went to hell.

I won’t even get into ‘Body Armor Moon Knight’.  Looked like they modeled him after one of the many Batman action figure variants out there clogging the pegs.

So…here we go, my interpretation of Sienkiewicz’s interpretation of the Moon Knight.   Check it out over a cup o’ joe at Gina’s.

There's a bad moon on the rise!

Ah..and a return to the stumpy legged super-hero!  I guess I could go all Liefeld and just draw him standing in smoke.

Something for later.

Sketch of the Day: Batman 2 – Finished

Yesterday, I had to return a lot of phone calls, which meant a lot of time on hold.

This is what happens.

I'm Michael Keaton!

And so you can see where I started…in case you didn’t see it yesterday….

I am the Mannydamm Batman!

Or as I like to look at it – Cause and Effect.

It is entirely possible that this image might change before I’m happy with it.

Sketch of the Day: Dr. Strange

So…work has been kicking my butt for the past couple weeks (months).  To let off a little steam, I decided to make myself draw for at least a half hour to an hour a day.

You know, to keep me from hurting a co-worker.

Some of the results are garbage, some are okay.   I’ll be posting the better pieces here.

Maybe, over time, we’ll see improvement.

First out of the gate is Dr. Strange.  I’ve always liked the outfit, and now that I’ve gone grey at the temples, I kind of look like the guy.

Ooogie, boogie, boogie!

Enjoy.

Kansas City Arena League: Name That Team WINNER!!!

Suck it!I’m a sucker for ‘Name that Team’ contests.   Whenever a new minor league sports team comes to town and has a contest for their nickname, I’m in.

Kansas City got two new hockey teams in the past 5 years.  The first time around, I entered the ‘Kansas City Stampede’ which eventually lost to the ‘Outlaws’ which are currently lost to time.    This past fall, I entered ‘The Independence A-Bombs’ because they wanted a name associated with Harry Truman and he’s the guy who dropped the bomb.  They went with ‘Missouri Mavericks’ because they said it tested well (this was just a few months removed from the election and everybody had Maverick fever).  Their colors are light blue and orange and the mascot is a horse.

That has Truman written all over it… if the horse played poker with its buddies and drank whiskey in the afternoon.  Give ‘em hell, horsie. (more…)

A Few Cards Short of a Full Deck

Every now and then I post images from the glacially slow ‘Deck of Cards’ project.  Here’s the two latest:

Trump that, Bitches!

Who's up for a little Gim-Runny?

And why has it been such a slow process? Because of me and how I am. I got to looking at the two cards side by side and realized that the queen was too busy. The design needed to be simpler.

So……

And trump it I shall!

Would You Like My Vote With That?

At least that's what the focus group said.

I’m a sucker for market research.

Will I ‘Definitely’ do them, ‘Maybe’ do them, or ‘Not Lkely’ to do them?

Definitely ‘Defintely’!

Marketing is slick.  You might not realize it, but most everything you see on TV, hear on the radio or read in a magazine is filtered through people like me.  Ever hear of ‘cheesy queso’ sauce?  Nope?  Then you owe me a big thank you.  While some in the group thought is sounded ‘rich’ and ‘cheesy’ and ‘delicious’, I suggested it be slathered all over a carne-beef burger served on a pan-bread bun, topped with lechuga- lettuce and a cebolla-onion slice.  Call it the Redundant’s Spanglish-Special.  I’d like to think that I, personally, put an end to cheesy queso sauce.

I’ve put food on your table, beer in your fridge, a phone in your pocket, and gotten you laid.

Aren’t you glad you know me?

Stacking The Deck

I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you.

So I haven’t posted much, because I’ve been getting my ass handed to me at work.  Our entire business paradigm has shifted from one of planning an preparation to  ‘There’s no minute like the last minute’.

Anyway…

In an attempt to keep my mind right, I’ve burned up all my free time playing with these.  I was going to do different images for all 52 cards in a deck, but ultimately decided that that would make me insane.  I’ve got some touch up work to do on the Ace of Diamonds (which I’ll post back here), then it’s on to the Jacks.

Hopefully, that won’t take another four months.

Clubs and Spades are after the jump.

Noche Cinco

T’was late Noche Cinco

In a lonely cantina,

Where a world-weary stranger

Sits, sipping tequila.

He’s perched at the bar,

With shirt tails untucked

Over surfer board shorts

And sandals with socks.

To his left, to his right

There’s nary a soul.

Couple of stragglers, a loner,

Some last call night owls.

He glug-guzzles his shot,

While eyeballing the door,

Wags glass at the ’keep

To order one more.

The barman tips an anejo,

Wedges lime on a plate.

“Couldn’t help notice,

but your friends, they are late.”

Kidrobot 18: Kozik’s Kid Mutant

CHEEEEEEEESE!!!!!

Bear with me as this is my first foray into flat out shilling for a product.

side by side with an electric green luchadore (Tequila Smash! or Incredible Tequila Edition by Muttpop),

Tequila Smash puny toy collectors!

a ‘stache sporting banana (Kozik’s Big Mongers- Ramirez, by kidrobot),

Finally, a toy with 'a peel'! HAHAHAHAHAHA

and a shiny happy Shriner (Shag’s Shriner, by Rotofugi and Squibbles Ink).

Big Fun. Tiny Cars.

Come Thursday, I’ll be adding this guy. (more…)
