Friday LinkFrogging – 1/21/11

Score!

POP QUIZ!

If you could spend two days locked in your wood-panelled basement playing ‘BlackOps’ with anyone on earth, who would you choose?

Awwww….that’s sweet. You’d choose your brother. But we said ANYONE on earth. That’s right, look up slowly, take a deep breath, and now decide.

We thought you’d come around.

This week’s cheesecake is none other than gamer-Geek extraordinaire Olivia Munn. If you’re a regular viewer of G4 TV you’re probably already familiar with Ms. Munn, having spent 4 years getting assorted tips from her as co-host of that network’s ‘Attack of the Show!’ And you  ‘Daily Show’ fans out there have gotten to enjoy her work since June 2010, when she was added to John Stewart’s ready arsenal of quick-witted correspondents.

The movies were also good to Munn in 2010, seeing her get turns in both ‘Date Night’ and ‘Iron Man 2.’ And since you like to read, there’s always her spectactularly titled ‘Suck It, Wonder Woman: The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek,’ also released last year.

Finally, a little personal trivia to help break the ice while the game loads. Munn was born in Oklahoma of Chinese and German-Irish decent, and grew up as an Air Force brat, primarily in Tokyo.

Now get in there and have fun! See you Monday.

Friday LinkFrogging – 5/21/10

Class Dismissed!

Welcome back one and all to your weekly gaggle (school?  pride?  murder?) of links provided to you by all of us here at GonzoGeek.

I enjoy seeing what my Gonzo Compadres come up with each and every week.  They never fail to find some truly interesting stuff out there.  This week is no exception.

But before we head down that long and lonesome road that is the information superhighway, let’s meet this week’s travelling companion shall we?

Say hello to Alison Brie.  What a perfect name for the young lady who is this week’s cheesecake.  I can hear you out there kids.  “Why Alison Brie?”

Some weeks the selection process is organic.  This is one of those weeks.

Stephe and I were discussing Iron Man 2.  That led us to talking about Green Lantern.  We weren’t sure who had been cast as Carol Ferris, the love interest/bad girl villain, Star Sapphire (cosplay warning).  Turns out it was Blake Lively (bonus slice of cheesecake).  I couldn’t really see that.  Then later that night I watched a recorded episode of Community.  Ms. Brie’s character, Annie Edison, was scheming to keep the study group together and something about it made me think she’d be the perfect Carol Ferris.

I told Stephe.  He liked it and I realized we had our cheesecake.

Plus, who doesn’t like black lace and white oxfords.

Really.

Friday LinkFrogging – 5/7/10

ScarJo

Let’s be honest kids.  We’ve all had today circled on our calendars for a couple of years.  Ever since Tony Stark said “I am Iron Man.”

That’s right, today is the day that Iron Man 2 opens and we GonzoGeeks couldn’t be any happier.

I’m sure the movie won’t have that sense of wonder the first one had.  That would be nearly impossible to recapture.  But it does have the visceral enjoyment of watching Hollywood’s two favorite reclamation cases, Robert Downey, Jr. and Mickey Rourke, go toe-to-toe.

And Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Oh yeah, and this week’s cheesecake in black leather.

Say hello to Scarlett Johansson, appearing this weekend as the Black Widow in Iron Man 2.  I’ve got to be honest dear reader(s), we’ve been sitting on this one for a while.  When I realized we’d have a Friday LinkFrogging on the same day that Iron Man 2 opened, well, I put this photo in the file and saved it for today.

You’re welcome.

Summer Movies 2010

Its that time of year again.

Time for the studios to roll out the big blockbusters full of explosions and other enjoyable types of gratuity.  This is the time of year when we get to enjoy movies rather than films.

Last year, The Hangover was the big surprise and Land of the Lost was the big stinker.  After looking through the week by week list on IMDB, I see a lot of stinker potential.  Too much in fact.  Still, there are movies to been seen, popcorn to be eaten and fun to be had.

Let’s take a look at the summer movies I’m most intrigued by, in no particular order. (more…)

Friday LinkFrogging – 1/8/10

Happy 2010 dear reader(s)!

Isn’t this the year we make contact?

We’ve been busy here at GonzoGeek since last we spoke.  We’ve welcomed Aamir and Chuck to the crew.  Take a look at their stuff won’t you?  We’re also planning a bit of a visual overhaul in teh coming days/weeks so when we do make contact our little corner of the web will be all shiny and new.

Speaking of shiny…do you know what today is?  Why, it is Elvis’ birthday.  That’s right, if the King of Rock and Roll hadn’t died ignobly in 1977, he would be 75 today.  My mom was a huge Elvis fan and I was raised on the music and the movies.  Expains a lot doesn’t it.

So, in honor of the King’s birthday Stephe and I made a last minute substitution for this week’s cheesecake.  Please welcome the Queen of Graceland, Elvis’ number one pretty mama, Priscilla Presley.  Yes, we went with a retro shot of ‘Cilla.  Have you seen her lately?  She is one of the army of aging celebrites whose face has been ravaged by plastic surgery.  We’d rather remember her this way, during her “heyday” as an actress.  After leaving Elvis she went on to have a respectible career as a second tier leading lady.  You’ve probably seen her in at least on of the Naked Gun movies.  She was also on Dallas for a while.  In fact, if memory serves, she was the one who was wiped from continuity when Bobby woke up from his dream.

The Iron Man 2 Trailer is out!

And the only word that can adequately describe it is…BADASS!

I caught it last night during Entertainment Tonight and now I can’t wait for May to get here.

My boys are equally excited.

Mickey Rourke as Whiplash is going to be epic.

There are also quick shots of the Black Widow, War Machine and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Not to mention Garry Shandling as a US senator.

A link to the trailer can be found… (more…)

Friday LinkFrogging – 12/4/09

There has to be an appropriate golf inneuendo here.

Welcome to December.  Christmas is only three short weeks away kids.  Have you done your shopping?

Me either.

I’m too busy compiling our weekly fantastical trip around the internet as compiled by your friendly neighborhood GonzoGeeks.

As always, before we hit the links, its time for some cheesecake.  Ironically, it was a hit from the links that brought us this slice.  Say hello to Elin Nordegren aka Mrs. Tiger Woods.  Yes, she was at one point a model.  Then she married Tiger and became a wife and mother.  This week she became the center of a media blizzard when she allegedly worked Tiger over with one of his own clubs.

I think I speak for us all when I say…”Tiger, you sir, are an idiot.”

On to the links. (more…)
