Friday LinkFrogging – 4/22/11

Good Friday to you all.

We’re back to once again take a trip to the corners of the internet, both sacred and profane. Why?  Because its what we do.  We’re digital explorers.  We bring ‘em back alive and let you view from behind the glass.

Earlier this week, I was lamenting to the missus that I hadn’t come up with a suitable cheesecake selection for this week.  We haven’t hit the summer movie season which makes my life SO much easier and nobody has done anything new and/or mock worthy.

My wife, who gets the feature, said, “you know, this weekend is associated with rabbits. Why don’t you use someone who’s been a Playboy bunny?”

Or words to that affect.

Smart woman my wife.

Say hello to Jenny McCarthy won’t you?

Ms. McCarthy first rose to fame as the 1993 Playmate of the Year.  From there she moved into television, most notably as the co-host of MTV’s Singled Out.  It was there that she honed her brassy broad persona.  Since then she’s acted steadily in the movies and on television.  It hasn’t all been rosy.  Her 2006 movie Dirty Love was eviscerated by the critics and took home a wagon full of Razzies.

In recent years, Ms. McCarthy has become an outspoken autism advocate.

Friday LinkFrogging – 10/1/10

Happy Birthday to us!

Why?

Simply put, today is the one year anniversary of the debut of LinkFrogging.  What started out as a fun idea, has grown into one of our most looked at features and a highlight of my week.

The boys and I are always on the lookout for fun, offbeat stories to bring you.  We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoy hunting them down.

Of course, no discussion of LinkFrogging would be complete without a mention of the cheesecake, our weekly visual aid to help the links go down.

Earlier this week, our very first cheesecake, Kaley Cuoco, revealed that she had a behind the scenes relationship with co-star Johnny Galecki.  I wonder how John Ritter would have felt about that?

What does that have to do with anything?  Not much really.  It just goes to prove that, given the right circumstances, you can draw lines between any events.

On to this week’s cheesecake.  Say hello to Lea Michele from Glee.  Ms. Michele plays Rachel Berry, the lead on the America’s favorite glee club inspired sing along.

Glee hit new ratings highs this week with the appearance of guest star, Britney Spears.  Soundtracks have been released.  Tours have been undertaken.  Jane Lynch won an Emmy for her portrayal of evil PE coach, Sue Sylvester.  The show has become a monster hit for Fox, America’s home for football and karaoke.

I’ve heard the fans of this show refererred to as Gleetards.  That doesn’t seem fair.  As we say around here, “everyone is a geek about something.”  Yes, I’m looking at you fantasy football guy.  And I’m looking at you Twilight fan.  And I’m looking at you Sex and the City movie goers.

Fans call themselves Gleeks.  I like this much better.  Its a clever way of commenting on their fandom and keeps with the show’s themes.  Of course, they aren’t the first Gleeks in pop culture history are they?  Don’t remember?  Shame on you.  You’ll have to wait until after the links for bonus Gleeky goodness. Friday LinkFrogging – 4/16/10

Are you ready?

Are you ready?

Alright, let’s get it on!

Welcome back cats and kittens.  Its time once again for you take a stroll around the web with your favorite bunch of geeks.

Don’t worry.  We won’t send you alone into those scary corners of the cyber world.  Oh no, as always we’ll provide you with a travelling companion sure to make the trip much more enjoyable.

Please say hello to this week’s cheesecake, Busy Philipps.

I can hear some of you already.

What the…?

Who the…?

Ms. Philipps got her first taste of fame as freak bad girl, Kim Kelly, on the late and lamented Freaks and Geeks.  Since then she’s worked pretty steadily with appearances on ER, Entourage, White Chicks and Made of Honor.  She can currently be found plying her craft on ABC’s Cougar Town.

And that my dear friends is what got her this week’s nod.  In a week with not much new to watch on television, the wife and I played catch up on some DVR’ed programming, including a nearly season length Cougar Town marathon.  She that sticks last sticks best I suppose.

And FYI, she also co-wrote Blades of Glory for which Jon Heder will be forever grateful.

Friday LinkFrogging – 4/9/10

I don’t know about you dear reader, but this week has been like a double album.  There were some really good tracks, a lot of filler and some stuff I don’t ever want to hear again.

Did that make any sense?

No?

Figures.

That’s just the kind of week I’ve had.

Let’s just move on shall we?

I was conflicted this week on our cheesecake selection.  My initial thought was to go with Kristen Stewart and leach off some hits from the press surrounding the new Runaways movie.  Turns out that unless your idea of cheesecake is Kristen scowling in a NORML approved bikini, then there isn’t much to choose from.  Could this chick smile once in a while?  Please.

Then, after the tragic breakup of Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, I was going to go with Jenny to help her get over her sense of loss.  Norm McDonald telling Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman and Tony Clifton stories on Mancow this morning might have had something to do with that line of thinking.

Or, as my wife rightfully pointed out, “That’s a long way to go to use Jenny McCarthy.”

Point wife.

Then, being the trooper that she is, she suggested this young lady.

Say hello to this week’s cheesecake, Mila Kunis.  You may remember her best as the annoying Jackie on That 70′s Show.  She has since graduated to feature films, including a breakout role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  This weekend she co-stars alongside another Freaks and Geeks alum, James Franco, in Date Night

Thanks honey.

On with the links. (more…)
