Diplomacy, lost

When I was a kid, all the way through grad school, I thought working in the Foreign Service would be about the coolest thing possible. I didn’t end up there…looks like that might be OK after all!

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=19315183&sc=emaf  It comes as no surprise that both numbers and morale are down. We’ve had no interest in diplomacy for at least 8 years now.

The ‘civilian reserve corp’ sounds like a very spooky middle ground between the Peace Corp. and the Army Reserve.
The students who spoke, though reasonably articulate, strike me in my (moderately and relatively) advanced age as shockingly naive.
The machine is real. One must find peace within it. I intend to have our first big party in almost 7 years on the day W. is no longer our president. Not to celebrate whoever replaces him. But to celebrate his ‘goneness’.
