Friday LinkFrogging – 4/15/11

Greetings from the Land of ‘Geek kids.

Today would normally be Tax Day, but since Washington, D.C. is closed down for Emancipation Day (?) you’ve got until Monday to “render unto Caesar.”

Until then, why don’t you let us take your mind off all that with some links and cheesecake.

This week’s selection is the very rare double dip.  True, we’ve been featuring two pictures of our weekly selections for some time now, but today, for only the second time ever, we’ll be featuring two different ladies.

Simple really.

Scream 4 opens today and as Wes Craven attempts to resurrect his Ghostface slasher franchise, we thought we’d do our part by featuring the ladies most associated with the franchise.

First up, above, say hello to Courtney Cox.

The former Friend and current resident of Cougar Town (make your own joke.  They do.), Ms. Cox plays intrepid reporter Gale Weathers in the series.  She’s been stalked by the Ghostface killer and David Arquette.  She escaped the killer, but got knocked up and cheated on by Arquette.  I don’t think that would have happened if she’d stuck with Bat-Man.  He’s single-minded that way.

Recently, the paparazzi caught her in the nearly obligatory “nip slip” while on vacation.  Never one to miss an opportunity, David Letterman asked about the incident while showing the picture on his show earlier this week.  Good thing he’s a friend of Bat-Man.

That’s Michael Keaton kids.

Up next, we’ve got Neve Campbell.  Ms. Campbell plays Sidney Prescott, the de facto heroine of the Scream movies.  She also spent some time with the Salinger five and practicing her Craft.  Still, perhaps her most famous non-Screamy cinematic moment is likely her pool makeout with former cheesecake/Mrs. Sheen, Denise Richards in Wild Things.

That’s why they make the Google kids.

Friday LinkFrogging – 11/19/10

There is nothing quite like a weekend amongst your own kind to really make you appreciate things like our little corner of the internet here.

Stephe and I will be reporting on our adventures in the wilds of the Austin Comic Con soon, but let me just say it was fun.  From aging television stars to costumes to fine tequilas, we had a blast.

It made the real world all the more difficult this week.

I’ve salved my soul with Bruce Springsteen‘s new release, The Promise, and the search for the perfect cheesecake for this week’s entry.

I thought about using the now “of age” Emma Watson, but let’s be honest, that still seems pervy.

A couple of movies opened last week.  There was Morning Glory starring candidate, Rachel McAdams.

There was also Unstoppable starring, Denzel Washington, Captain Kirk 2.o and Rosario Dawson.

I guess you can tell who won out.

I was conflicted so I discussed the choice with fan/handmodel, David Cantu (@davebot5k).  We agreed that Ms. Dawson had the higher geek cred.

Don’t believe me?  Check out her resume.

Kevin Smith movie?  Check.  Quentin Tarantino movie?  Check.  Rob Zombie movie?  Check.  Robot Chicken?  Check.

She’s also appeared in Men in Black II, Percy Jackson & The Olympians:  The Lightning Thief, Sin City and Josie and the Pussycats.

She’s made movies with Iron Man, the Rock, Stifler, Donkey, the Hulk and Bullseye.

All this and she’s a huge comic book geek, having created and published her own book a few years ago.

Yes, Ms. Dawson is a card carrying geek girl and a welcome addition to the gallery.

Friday LinkFrogging – 10/29/10

Don't even TRY to put Baby in the corner.

Its almost Halloween.

As Count Floyd would say “Ohhh…spooky kids.”

Seriously, is there a better holiday than Halloween.  You get to dress up in a costume and, depending on your predilictions and/or guts, live out your fantasies, all while begging for food.

Think about it, if the guy under the freeway with the cardboard sign rang your doorbell on November 1st, you’d call 9-1-1.  He does it one night before?  He’s a really authentic looking (and smelling) hobo.  Here, have some bite size Snickers.

Hell, you might even ask him to pose with your kids for a picture.

But, if there is anything we learned from the Firefly family, its that its not necessarily the scary hobos you have to look out for.

And with that rather ham-fisted segue, please say hello to this week’s cheesecake, Sherri Moon Zombie.

Sherri is probably best known for her work as Baby Firefly in House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects.  She also starred as the mother of Michael Myers in Rob’s two “reimagined” Halloween movies.

She’s laid pretty low since Halloween II, but after serving as Rob Zombie‘s wife and white trash muse for the last decade, we thought she’d be the perfect cheesecake for Halloween this year.

Welcome back kids.

Another week in the books.  With them came the MLB playoffs.  Roy Halladay threw a no-hitter in the first game of the Phillies’ series with the Reds.  That’s gotta sting.  The Yankees are doing their annual pummeling of the Twins.  And, the Rangers are 9 innings away from eliminating the (Devil) Rays.

Sorry Matt.

Oh yeah, and Randy Moss got traded from the Patriots to the Vikings.  Let’s see if this makes Moss a better receiver and/or Brett Favre a better QB.

It’s a mad, mad, mad world kids.

Speaking of madness, say hello to this week’s cheesecake, Christina Hendricks.

Ms. Hendricks plays Joan, the real power behind the throne, on AMC’s critically acclaimed Mad Men.  She also showed up for a couple of episodes of GonzoGeek favorite, Life, to bedevil Adam Arkin.

While I’m a latecomer to the Mad Men party, I have to say the show is growing on me.  There is something watching the ugliness under the 60s version of the American Dream.  My wife and I are playing catch up thanks to Netflix whilst our trusty DVR collects season 4 for us.

As if that wasn’t enough geek cred for Ms. Hendricks, she was recently cast as the voice of Superman’s main squeeze, Lois Lane, in an upcoming DC animated movie.

And earlier this week, it was revealed, to nobody’s real suprise that Ms. Hendricks’ appeal hits all the demographics.  Everyone, it seems, digs a curvy redhead.

Deliver me...

Fools’ gold out of their mines
The girls are soaking wet
No tounge’s drier than mine
I’ll come when I get back

“Yah mule, yah!” – Yosemite Sam

Carrot? Stick? CHEESCAKE! It makes every day feel like Friday.

When Bruce first re-handed me the reigns of this august institution, Blake Lively was gonna be our girl. She had ‘geek cred, given her ‘Green Lantern’ casting, and had recently caught the full attention of yours truly while sitting on the Comic-Con panel for same. A quick internet search and….nothin’.  Well, not nothin’, but nothing that looked better than the Comic-Con pics themselves.

But then the wonders of the interwebz reminded me that the live-action movie adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ graphic novels opens this week, and who did my roving eye espy?: Ms. Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

MEW plays Ramona Flowers, the potential siren to Michael Cera’s good-guy-trapped-in-a-world-he-only-partially-made title character. But it’s hardly her first turn through GG-friendly territory. Since graduating from Disney’s ‘Sky High,’ she has appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Death Proof’ and as Bruce Willis’ daughter in ‘Live Free or Die Hard.’ Like your films more dramatic? Try her turns in ‘Factory Girl’ and Robert Kennedy pic ‘Bobby’ on for size.

And lest the casual geek decide that this whole ‘Scott Pilgrim….’ thing is just a bunch of greasy kid stuff, it should be pointed out that director/co-writer Edgar Wright’s previous credits include ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz.’

And now, if our new hostess will please pull the curtain…

On to the Links. Walk this way.

Friday LinkFrogging – 12/18/09

Welcome back friends and neighbors.  You favorite GonzoGeeks are going to give you one last dose of LinkFrogging this year/decade.  We’ll be taking the next two Fridays off for Christmas and New Years Day, but rest assured, your daily dose of links and cheesecake will return in 2010.

Speaking of cheesecake, with the movie Avatar opening today, it seemed like a great chance to serve up Sigourney Weaver.  In addition  to appearing in James Cameron’s multimillion dollar 3-D sci-fi epic, Ms. Weaver has some other serious geek cred.  She starred as Dana Barrett in the two Ghostbusters movies, she was in the Star Trek parody/homage Galaxy Quest, and, of course, she was Ripley in the Alien Quadrilogy.

Merry Christmas to all and on to the links. Continue reading “Friday LinkFrogging – 12/18/09”
